With a population of 181.095 in 2020 (ONS), the\u00a0borough covers roughly 30\u00a0km\u00b2 (12 sq miles), with much of the countryside being primarily used for arable farming.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>Historically, St Helens was well known for its coalmining,\u00a0glass manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals \u2013 while today it is known for award-winning businesses in manufacturing and digital technologies including NGF, Pilkington, Tata Steel, Sainsbury\u2019s Distribution, Vimto Co-op Distribution.\u00a0<\/p><p>Proud of its industrial heritage, St Helens is also very much looking to the future and has been chosen as the location for Glass Futures \u2013 a global centre of excellence to make glass the low carbon material of choice \u2013 which
