Wirral is a peninsula bounded by the Dee Estuary, Irish Sea and River Mersey and its main towns include Birkenhead, Wallasey, Heswall, and West Kirby. With some 25 miles of coast and over 70km2 of countryside, Wirral is well known for its many attractions and things to do, including rural walks, cycling, water sports, and there are 14 golf courses to choose from. Within Wirral there is a wealth of cultural and heritage attractions including the Lady Lever Art Gallery, which houses one of the UK’s finest collections of fine and decorative art including the best collection of Wedgwood jasperware anywhere in the world, alongside internationally renowned Pre-Raphaelite paintings. Port Sunlight, the village founded by ‘Soap King’ William Hesketh Lever in 1888 to house Lever Brothers’ factory workers, remains the home to a fascinating museum, beautiful architecture, a world-class art gallery, stunning parkland and a thriving community. Other attractions include Birkenhead Priory & St. Mary’s Tower (the oldest building on Merseyside); the Wirral Transport Museum & Tramway; and the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum. Summer 2022 will see the opening of Eureka! Science + Discovery at Seacombe Ferry Terminal – a brand new attraction to inspire young people to pursue science.
