Royal Garden Parties

His Majesty The King hosts garden parties at Buckingham Palace during the summer months.

Lord-Lieutenants, together with government departments, the Civil Service, Armed Services, charities, and societies, are invited to make nominations thereby achieving a representative cross-section of the community.

It is not possible to acquire invitations to The King’s Garden Parties through direct application to Buckingham Palace. If you feel that someone from Merseyside has made a major contribution to life in the community, or has provided exceptional service in any other way, you should consider recommending to the Lord-Lieutenant that they should receive an invitation.

Terence Maguire was nominated for his youth work in the business community of Newton le Willows. He was accompanied by his wife Mrs Ann Marie Maguire.

The Royal Garden Party takes place between 3pm and 6pm and normally around 8,000 guests attend. Her Majesty The Queen is accompanied by other members of the Royal family and they arrive at 4pm. Each member of the Royal Family takes a different route or position in the garden and members of the Corps of Gentlemen Ushers select random individuals for presentation.

Tea and refreshments are served a marquee on the Buckingham Palace lawn. Guests are free to eat, drink and stroll around the beautiful Palace gardens.

Guests attending the garden party can either wear morning dress, lounge suits or uniform for gentlemen and day dress or trouser suits (usually with hats or fascinators) for the ladies. National dress may be worn.

To nominate someone for a garden party invitation, please contact the Lord-Lieutenant’s Office.
